day 45 – to the final we go!

July 7, 2010.

Amazing, no?  SPAIN IS IN THE FINAL.  OF THE WORLD CUP.

And once again, we beat up the Germans.

Game notes:  the final score was Germany 0, Spain 1, with Spain’s goal coming from a header by our very own Tarzan, Carles Puyol. We’ll face the Netherlands on Sunday in the final of the World Cup – even as I type those words, I still find it hard to believe.

Xavi was named man of the match, but said that “the day belonged to Puyi, not only for the goal.  He’s the heart of the defense.”

La Reina Sofía was at the game, and she went to the locker room afterward to congratulate the players.  The other Reina (Pepe) filmed her visit with a video camera, and Puyol was the last one to receive her congratulations because he was in the shower when she appeared.  And Capdevila claimed that they danced a little in front of her.

Meanwhile, Sergio Ramos looked ahead and said that the Netherlands deserved to be in the final.  He added that, “I have friends and teammates on the team, and it’ll be great and emotional to play against them.”  He also revealed that he’s talking with Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben.  The other Sergio, Busi, shed a few tears after the game, and said that he’s very happy for Puyol, because if anyone deserved it, it was him.  Busi will have the support of his parents for the final, as they will fly to South Africa.

And Vicente del Bosque said that it was a painful decision to use Pedro instead of Fernando Torres, but that they made it because they thought it would be better that way.  Pedro did have a great game, except for that one moment where he should have passed to the open Fernando Torres…  I think helping Fernando score and get his confidence back would do much more for the team than if Pedro scored a goal and extended his record of scoring in all competitions, since that was most likely what was on his mind at the moment.

Looking ahead to today, the team flew back to Potch after the game and will have the day off until 18h.  At 19h, there will be a training session for the non-starters.

  1. Iker’s face of happiness in that picture is simply priceless!

I think Sergio definitely has potential to become the next public relations manager of “la sele”
    he knows everyone

i really cant picture the Queen in the locker room while the boys are taking showers and dressing… I’d glad accompany her though xD

    • I also still can’t believe it! They made it! They really f****** made it!!! I’m awestruck. And so so so happy :D woohooo! And noooow for the cup! YES :D

    • Hahaha, and agree. The queen should totally take us to the locker room ^_^

  2. Does xabi’s head look misplaced/too large in that photo or is it just me?

    Can’t wait til Sunday :D

    • xabi’s head does look strange, doesn’t it? it seems like a weird contortion of the neck. he either has super-human neck-twisting abilities, or someone applied the miracles of photoshop. i’ve been looking at his lately, too, though, and it looks like he might need a haircut — the sides look kind of puffy. glad i’m not the only one obsessing over minute details like this one :)

  3. Congrats! I’m rom Germany, but I’ve been a fan of the spanish team for a long time now.
They so deserved to win this after all these horrible games were no one would let them show their real skills. Thankfully Germany let them :D (I like the team, but in Germany it’s only about the nation that’s winning, not about football). I guess no one knows that Xavi’s the world’s best. And Iker and Ramos were so good…

I hope they win! And I am looking forward to 2012. I want them to make history and win the Euros, too :)

  4. YESSS ahahahah the queen. I second what everyone said!
I was practically crying after puyi’s goal yesterday, and after they won! such a bunch of lovable guys!
ahhh, the cup is almost in their hands! :D
    i just don’t want the world cup to end…..4 long years……ughhhhh :P

  5. Wow, I’m so happy now, the game was really exciting. I was angry with Pedro.
Sergio talked with Sneijder and Robben… did they send him any text messages?;) hihihi
I’m looking forward to Sunday and I hope Iker&company will hold Word Cup!
