Spain takes on Italy tonight in a friendly at the Vicente Calderón (Madrid) at 22h. There are several things of note about this game. It is the last time La Roja is together before the concentración for the World Cup begins on May 26, the game will serve as a tribute to the late and great Luis Aragonés and as the stage for the debut of the new black jerseys, and of course this will be the first time we see Diego Costa in the shirt of Spain. All eyes have been on him the entire week, although I have to admit mine were focused on Azpi’s dimples instead!
During the last concentración back in November, the boys filmed their holiday messages. With 2014 being a World Cup year, it was no surprise that the shiny gold trophy was mentioned time and again.
I do hope that 2014 will bring us many successes, including of course the World Cup.
Spain has returned to Soccer City (now FNB Stadium) for the first time since winning the World Cup there on July 11, 2010. La Roja will play South Africa in a friendly tonight at 20h. Of the 23 players who were crowned champions with Spain on that unforgettable night, 15 have traveled with the team for this trip, and according to prognostics, VDB will try and play as many of them tonight as possible. There are six more (Puyol, Piqué, Xavi, Cesc, Torres, Silva) who could make the final list for Brazil. Only two (Capdevila, Marchena) no longer figure in VDB’s plans.
Just being back in South Africa brought back many memories for our team.
… some of these boys could have a promising career in another profession.
We are champions of Europe in the senior, U-21 and U-19 categories! In fact, in the last five years, we have won six European titles: the 2008 and 2012 Eurocopas, the 2011 and 2013 U-21 Eurocopas and the 2011 and 2012 U-19 Eurocopas. Can you say hegemony?
Spain takes on
Benji, Oliver and Japan in its Olympics opener this afternoon at Hampden Park (15:45h Spain time, 14:45h local time). The starting line-up is made up of David de Gea, Martín Montoya, Álvaro Domínguez, Iñigo Martínez, Jordi Alba, Javi Martínez, Koke, Isco, Juan Mata, Rodrigo and Adrián.
London, here we come! Or rather Glasgow, since that will be Spain’s first stop in these Olympic Games, as La Rojita will take on Japan on July 26 at Hampden Park in its first game of the Games.
The latest on La Rojita!
There has been a lot of controversy and jokes made over the uniforms the Russian firm Bosco has made for the Spanish Olympic Team. Over the past few days, quite a few of our Olympians have posted photos of themselves in the well, quite eye-catching and apparently tribal inspired tracksuits, shirts, ties, shoes, caps and bags. This article by S Moda listed the all-time top 10 worst Olympic fashion disasters, with Spain 2012 unsurprisingly ranked number one.
When I first saw the uniforms, I thought, I can’t wait to see the boys in them for a good laugh! My second thought was, they’re so bad that even our boys wouldn’t be able to make it look good. Well, today I got both things, because Ander posted a photo of Javi in the outfit. Funny and hideous. My poor España.
