la selección in El Mundo Magazine, part III

Parts I and II here and here.

And now we come to the two boys with the most gorgeous eyes on the team, Jesús Navas and Fernando Llorente.  It’s a good thing that Jesús has those eyes, because his feet aren’t so pretty.  Fernando’s hair, meanwhile, is thick and luscious.  And FYI, he’s going to observe “total abstinence.”

Jesús Navas

1.  What is your first memory of a World Cup? I vaguely remember Romario and his goals from the World Cup in the U.S. in 1994, I wasn’t even 10 years old then.

2.  And which goal do you remember the best? Maradona’s against England, although I had just been born.

3.  What book or music will you bring along in your suitcase? I like El Barrio a lot, so I’m going to bring one of their CDs.

4.  Who will go with you? I haven’t decided yet, but my family for sure.

5.  What is your dream final? Beating Brazil 1-0 with me scoring the goal, or at least giving the pass that leads to it.

6.  We’ve come down to penalties and it’s your turn, how will you take it? With calmness.  I won’t say anything else just in case.

7.  And if we win, what crazy thing will you do? I’m a laid back person, not very into crazy things…

8.  What will cause you to cry more, winning or losing the final? If we win, I will cry from happiness and the emotion.

9.  And if we don’t go past the quarterfinals…? Well, then we weren’t up to it.

10.  Which of the following will give us more indigestion: Swiss cheese, Chilean empanadas or Honduran yucca? There’s nothing that will cause us indigestion!

11.  Are you surprised that the multimillion football business brought the World Cup to South Africa? Football is universal, and doesn’t only belong to developed countries.

12.  What do you know about Durban? To tell you the truth, I haven’t had time to find out, but I will.

13.  Before the debut, abstinence or going crazy? That will remain private…

14.  Who or what would you give a red card to? To social injustices.

15.  When was the last time you felt uncomfortable, and why? Ufff, I prefer not to say!

16.  Who or what would you like to score a goal against? Against Julio César, Brazil’s goalie.  And like I said, even better if it’s in the final!

17.  For who or what would you dive into the deep end for? (the same phrase means to dive on the field as well, in the penalty area) I’ll only dive into the pool if it’s full and I’m hot!

18.  You’ve taken the microphone from Reina.  “Camarero…” I would ask for a Jabugo ham, although I don’t have a song to go with it…

19.  You have to dance, which type would you choose? Hahaha, I would have to go with flamenco, because I’m from Los Palacios!

20.  Have you won the final on Playstation? Many times!

Fernando Llorente

1.  What is your first memory of a World Cup? I was only 10 years old, but I remember perfectly when Tassotti broke Luis Enrique’s nose in the U.S.

2.  And which goal do you remember the best? Maradona’s, against England.

3.  What book or music will you bring along in your suitcase? I prefer to play cards, such as pocha.  Last time, I played with Casillas, Villa, Reina and Cazorla.

4.  Who will go with you? Right now, no one.

5.  What is your dream final? Spain against anyone, and I would like to score the winning goal!

6.  We’ve come down to penalties and it’s your turn, how will you take it? I don’t know, whatever occurs to me in that moment.

7.  And if we win, what crazy thing will you do? Pufff.  That’s complicated.  It will be something so incredible that you won’t believe it.

8.  What will cause you to cry more, winning or losing the final? For sure, losing.

9.  And if we don’t go past the quarterfinals…? It won’t be a failure.  When you play a game, anything can happen.

10.  Which of the following will give us more indigestion: Swiss cheese, Chilean empanadas or Honduran yucca? Probably the empanada… I debuted against Chile, they’re a hard team.

11.  Are you surprised that the multimillion football business brought the World Cup to South Africa? Africa deserves an event like this one.

12.  What do you know about Durban? It’s where we will make our debut, but I don’t know anything else…

13.  Before the debut, abstinence or going crazy? Total abstinence.

14.  Who or what would you give a red card to? To poverty.

15.  When was the last time you felt uncomfortable, and why? More times on the field than off.

16.  Who or what would you like to score a goal against? Against people who don’t believe in me.

17.  For who or what would you dive into the deep end for? (the same phrase means to dive on the field as well, in the penalty area) For equality.

18.  You’ve taken the microphone from Reina.  “Camarero…” Ufff… I’m very shy, I would have to be high

19.  You have to dance, which type would you choose? Always flamenco.

20.  Have you won the final on Playstation? I haven’t played it, but I’ve imagined it many times in my mind… and we won!
