two future captains

PF Juan Mata has been in the news recently, due to his change of clubs, which is why Marca gave us this photo of a teenage Juanín from his time at Oviedo, and I knew I had to share it since you seemed to like the previous PF JM posts a lot.  Anyway, Juan had told Harper’s Bazaar that “going abroad could be a very positive experience” and Esquire that England was an acceptable choice, both professionally and personally, so I wish him the best of luck in his new adventure!  Plus, it’s great that he has a La Roja teammate in Fernando Torres at his new club to help him out, no?

Juan played for Oviedo between the ages of 12 and 15, and they’ll receive €210,000 of the transfer fee, as FIFA stipulates that the clubs a player turns out for between the ages of 12 and 23 get part of the fee, as they’ve participated in the formation of the player.

And while we’re on the subject of photos of our boys from their younger days, here’s one of Javi Martínez (!!!), which has been residing on my desktop for some time now, due to how adorable he is in the photo.  Doesn’t he look like a little troublemaker?

  1. [LOL javi… photographed mid-derp :) ]

    goodluck juanin!

  2. They both look so adorable.

  3. OMG little Javi is adorable and already quite a looker. And Juanin is a cutie. <3

  4. Squeeee! Baby Juanín is one fierce-looking baller (and future captain). Javitxu, on the other hand, looks like he’s three minutes from setting some more sheets on fire. One can’t help but wonder if he’s just stuck gum in his sister’s hair or something. :-p

  5. Haha baby Juan Mata kinda looks like Frankie Muniz!

  6. What a cute photo of Mata and Javi! Mata deserves all the success that is coming his way! Hope he shines in EPL and becomes a solid starter with the senior team!

And, hopefully, his success will rub off on Torres and he starts getting goals on a regular basis too!

  7. Oh my goodness these photos are PRICELESS! Thank you so much for sharing them!
Juan’s eyes!! :o And Javi’s awkward smile!! This is too funny!

As for PF’s transfer.. Eh.. I can’t say I’m too happy about it, because there’s absolutely no way I’d start following another team in a different league JUST because of certain players, yes even if it’s adorable Juanín and Nando.. :( (And sorry for the club related statement). But as long as PF’s happy, then all’s good! Good luck El Picho!

  8. How adorable are these guys?!

Una, any idea who the girl is?

Best of luck to PF. If he adjusts only half as well as David Silva, he’ll make a huge impact for Chelsea. Maybe he’ll even help Torres get his form back?

  9. Aw, Juan’s such a beauty. I loved reading all the interviews (thank you for the translations!), hopefully there’ll be more of the same from the English press!

  10. im new to your blog, but i really enjoy it…esp Javi post..Javi look cute n doesnt change too much…Hmm…hope u keep up a good work..I love all the stuff in the blog
