two future captains
PF Juan Mata has been in the news recently, due to his change of clubs, which is why Marca gave us this photo of a teenage Juanín from his time at Oviedo, and I knew I had to share it since you seemed to like the previous PF JM posts a lot. Anyway, Juan had told Harper’s Bazaar that “going abroad could be a very positive experience” and Esquire that England was an acceptable choice, both professionally and personally, so I wish him the best of luck in his new adventure! Plus, it’s great that he has a La Roja teammate in Fernando Torres at his new club to help him out, no?
Juan played for Oviedo between the ages of 12 and 15, and they’ll receive €210,000 of the transfer fee, as FIFA stipulates that the clubs a player turns out for between the ages of 12 and 23 get part of the fee, as they’ve participated in the formation of the player.
And while we’re on the subject of photos of our boys from their younger days, here’s one of Javi Martínez (!!!), which has been residing on my desktop for some time now, due to how adorable he is in the photo. Doesn’t he look like a little troublemaker?
