back to Spain and La Liga!
The international break is finally over, and as much as I like seeing La Roja together, I’m excited for club football – La Liga! Champions League!! Copa del Rey!!!
Anyway, La Roja returned to Madrid early Wednesday morning, after their (chartered) flight was delayed a bit in Buenos Aires. Members of the Argentine national team who live in Spain and who had taken a commercial Iberia flight arrived before they did. Not many of the Spanish players were in the mood to talk with the press upon arrival, although Sergio Ramos did say that “no one cares what the press says [in Argentina] because we’ve shown that we can win titles.” He’s right, because the team that Spain fielded on Tuesday was missing a lot of key components, and there was really nothing at stake to be played for. Do we really have to remind the Argentine press what happened to their team – basically the same one as Tuesday’s but minus the crazy coach – during the World Cup?
Some observations on the team’s return to Spain: Iker and Sergio were twins!!! You never thought you would see that day, no? It was because they were the only ones in the team clothes; the rest were in regular clothes.

Not that the regular clothes were a big improvement. It looks like David Villa is wearing tie-dyed jeans. Pedro was wearing a pair of cuffed denim shorts. Pedrito, STEP AWAY from David and Iker!!! Do not let them influence you!

Speaking of David and Iker, they were acting like a couple of schoolkids. And obviously David/Piqué used up all the entire gel supply for the trip because Iker’s hair was basically plastered to his head.

Xabi, Pepe, Víctor (he kind of looks like Pep there, minus the tattoos of course) and Álvaro looked good, as per the norm (if you don’t take into account Álvaro’s complete set of LV luggage). As did el niño. And I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that some of the players’ mobiles have become permanently attached to their hands/ears.

Bonus Pipita because he looked good and because I love him.

It wasn’t my intention when I started writing this post that it would turn into a bit of a fashion review, but sometimes you just can’t help but make observations on their choices of clothing. But at least Iker and Sergio spared me some thinking and typing by wearing RFEF clothes and not their own, since that would have warranted (at the minimum) a paragraph.
And speaking of fashion, Vicente del Bosque will auction off on Oct. 4 the watch he wore during the World Cup and donate the proceeds to the Down’s Syndrome Foundation of Madrid. The watch, a Sportster ‘Vicente del Bosque,’ is a one of a kind item created by Swiss firm Bovet and bidding will begin at €12,200. VDB’s son Álvaro has Down’s Syndrome.
La Roja will be back together in about a month’s time, with games against Lithuania on Oct. 8 and Scotland on Oct. 12, both of which are Euro 2012 qualifying games.

valdes..mmmm :)
good advice for pedrito, lol :)
hehe i have to agree with you on victor … that pic/pose/tongue could induce some more flutters… and some more shameless staring.

seriously, don’t these guys on the NT just look at each other and say, ‘god damn we’re hot!’
er… in spanish of course.
your last comment about them thinking THAT about each other cracked me up big time! ROTFL.
“Iker and Sergio were twins!!!” DON’T GIVE THEM IDEAS. They might decide to start collaborating in the fashion arena, and if they dress badly now, I assure you that whatever they think up will be exponentially worse.
Villa’s choices in denim put Iker to shame, I must say. Tie-dye? Just be glad it’s not also pink. And I love how he just reaches out and *flick* – only to get a *look* from the captain! Álvaro’s classic style is also heartwarming; he’s rather like Xabi in that you can just count on him to look good and give your eyes a rest. :-D
“[their] mobiles have become permanently attached to their hands/ears” – seriously. All of them. Phones are in their hands at all times unless they’re actually on the pitch. I don’t know how they do it.
Yeah! Don’t you just love everything about Alvaro?! :D I wouldn’t compare him to Xabi too much though. Xabi just has that cool, untouchable aura about him, and Alvaro’s more fun and approachable :) but it’s true that you can put your money on both of them not to disappoint appearance-wise.
By the way, Pipita’s shirt looks like something Alvaro would wear.
Ha, Álvaro isn’t like Xabi in the “radiating classiness” department, but simply in the “I can count on you to dress youself and not look fugly” department. Different styles, different personalities, equally easy on the eyes! :-D
I think some of them might actually HAVE their phones in their hands ON THE PITCH if they could. Maybe Alvaro could do a Foursquare check in during the game — I’m on the left flank of the Bernabeu pitch! http://4sq.com/b22Qz2
I’d prefer: I’m at the opposing goal celebrating a goal by Sergio/Xabi/Pipita/Benzema…
Haha seriously! I can totally see him doing both of those things (maybe even with pictures!) if it weren’t 100% certain that TSO (and Del Bosque) would crucify him (or just make him give up Twitter) as a result!
Haha thats a nice imagination!!! LOL!
agree! Spain was missing their key components during the game *and i missed Iker very much*
Gosh I love Pipita! What a smile!!! *dying happyly*
can someone tell Di Maria, that hes in Madrid, not in Paris? ;)
That gif with Villa and Iker is absolutely adorable. David’s being so random :D
I thought it was so cute and random. Such school boys. Anyone knows what Iker is saying to David when he turns around?
Love Daveed’s stoneface while he’s teasing Iker. :)
And Valdes…yes, please, I’ll have some of that!
OMG, it will be a tragedy for me when La roja will be playing against Lithuania. I’m lithuanian, so I actually don’t know what team I should support….
Thank God Sergio said that. One loss to Argentina in a game with most of the defence missing and nothing at all to play for, the press has started acting like Spain won the World Cup by mistake and it was Argentina’s all along. They lost 4-1 to Germany for crying out loud and that too when it mattered most!
Whoa, thank God Iker wore team clothes, but bear in mind that his shoes aren’t visible from those pictures.. And let’s hope that they actually are shoes and something disastrous like tan sandals :o
No seriously, what’s up with Sergio?! I’m not entirely sure about this newfound appearance. I’ve said this before and I will say it again, I miss the quirky Sexio!!! :(
Oh and if I was behind Iker, I’d do a little more that just flick the back of his ear hehe :D
Iker was wearing gray sneakers, which didn’t look bad with his blue shirt and shorts. Xabi and Álvaro were wearing white sneakers, which looked strange on Xabi because he was wearing a black shirt.
Just grey sneakers??..No weird orange stripes or cowbells dangling by the laces??..
No matter how bad it sounds, I’ve learned not to question Alvaro and definitely not Xabi since all is consoled once they slip on those amazing ray-bans, yes that’s right even popped up collars *Xabi*.
Thanks for the extra info!
I’m surprised Sergio has managed to keep it up this long, to be honest! But don’t worry, he’ll slip up sooner or later and you’ll have the old Sexio back! :-p
In the meantime, just enjoy the adorableness of his attempts to dress like a responsible grownup! (I’m pretty sure that’s what’s brough it on, anyway…)
Firstly just want to thank you for this site! You obviously put a lot of effort into translating everything and since stumbling across it the other week I’ve not been able to atop going back over alllll the posts and seeing all the lovely pictures and news, esp knowing with hindsight that la roja went on to become campeones :)
anyway I wondered if you or anyone know of it’s possible to buy an English version of xavis autobiography or if indeed it’s any good/ worth a read? I don’t there is an English version cause I’ve looked everywhere but thought if anyone knew they’d be on this site!
Thanks again!
Katy
Hahahaha this is the cutest thing I’ve seen since puppies came to life!!
The guys are so adorable
and thanks for the Pipito Bonus, that may have just made my entire day
I don’t blame you though
He is one of the guys you just can’t resist :)
sry my head can’t collect this level of adorableness at once so I mispelled his name lol
Pipito= Pipita :)
Luv the dirty look that Iker gave el Guaje. Hilarious! Una, when is our next chapter translation of Secretos de La Roja. I have read ahead, but need my translation to make sure I didn’t miss anything =).
Soon, it’s already ready, but then we had the international break, so there was a lot of other things to post about instead!
Thank you for the updates. The clip of Villa and Casillas is funny :D
Anyway, did you know that Villa posted msg on his FB? It’s a very long msg. Seems that he doesn’t know how to use Notes feature, lol.
curious. what were the press in argentina saying?
Stuff like “give the Cup back” and other nonsense.
that’s sad. :( ive been trying to stay away from the internet as much as i can lately, except to visit this blog. i dont think i can take if i come across any negative comments or articles about the team right now.
thanks.
they’re funny. they want to forget their drubbing by the germans in the world cup so they project their lack of quality then to esp.
these athletes momentarily left their clubs who pay them to go all the way to argentina and they get what? beaten up on the pitch, catcalled by the crowd and slanged by the press. never knew that argentinians were an ungracious lot. it’s a friendly, for goodness’ sake.
Just to share, David Villa after 2 months without publishing on his Facebook, yesterday posted 11(!) notes:)
